Coenraad Zielstra
Memorial Service
Date:
Sunday August 1, 2010
Time: 2:00 PM
Place:
Lairmont Manor
405 Fieldston Rd., Bellingham
Born in Naarden, The Netherlands, in 1942, Coenraad touched many lives before he died at his home in Bellingham, WA on July 24, 2010. As a young man he collected shells and crystals but directed his artistic endeavors to painting. Later, his interest turned to sculptures which led him to the Vakschool for Goud en Zilversmeden where he graduated with his gold and silversmithing diplomas in 1963. His journey to Bellingham in 1991 took several turns, including immigrating to Vancouver, Canada with his family in 1977. Wherever he went, Coenraad set up his workshop, continuing to thrive as a working artist with his own art gallery. Through his studio he formed lasting friendships with clients from around the world. Being a Dutchman, he spent much of his free time on the water, first kayaking rivers and canals in Holland and later the beautiful waters of the Pacific NW. He loved being able to see seals and otters and had several encounters with whales and dolphin. He is survived by his wife Barbara and his children: Rosmarijne, Orell, Catherine and Alison. A Memorial Service celebrating Coenraad’s life will be at the Lairmont Manor on Sunday, August 1st at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be given to Chuckanut Conservancy or Lighthouse Mission.
