Kevin David Schmatjen, was born October 24, 1960 in Seattle, WA to Arlene (Fast) Schmatjen and John ‘Jay’ Schmatjen. He lived his childhood years in the Seattle area, and graduated from Shoreline High School in 1979. Kevin moved to Bellingham from the Seattle area in 2003. He was employed at Hardware Sales in Bellingham for approximately seven years.
 
He is survived by two sons, Zack of Shelton, WA and Franco of Lynnwood, WA; his mother, Arlene Voth of Bellingham; his father Jay Schmatjen of Plantation, FL; and his brother Gary Schmatjen of Camano Island, WA. Kevin was found deceased at his residence, victim of an enlarged heart and other complications, on July 22, 2010.
 
A memorial service will be held at Birch Bay Bible Community Church, Blaine, WA on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Interment of ashes will be at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, WA.
