Walter H. Tanguy, born January 7, 1913, in Leavenworth, Washington, to Warren S. and Essie Bucher Tanguy, passed away June 16, 2010.  He is survived by the love of his life, Priscilla, to whom he was married for 75 years. He is also survived by son, John (Diane); daughters, Jeanne (Dennis) and Jennifer (Jim), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Walt was a son of Warren and Essie (Bucher) Tanguy.  Walt was active in many Whatcom County organizations including the Marietta Grange and very active in Ferndale government, as was his father before him.  Over the years he was recognized for his numerous achievements.  He was an Eagle Scout, volunteer fireman for 40+ years, rural mail carrier for 30+ years, Ferndale City Councilman and interim City Manager, past Ferndale Man of the Year, active in the Ferndale Senior Center, Whatcom County Council on Aging, Masonic Lodge, and United Church of Ferndale, where he especially enjoyed being lay reader for morning services.  For 15 years he worked with Moles Funeral Homes.

Walter was very generous and conscientious about caring for others. He loved people!  He kept a file of obituaries and tried to send copies to families who had lost a loved one. Walt was sad that he had outlived many of his dear friends, his eyesight was dimmed, and he had wanted to live to be 100!  He was a hard worker and loving husband and father.  He will be greatly missed!  The family thanks the Mount Baker Care Center for their kindness in their care for Walt.  We also thank the church, neighbors, and community for being so kind and thoughtful to our family over the years.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Lighthouse Mission, or the United Church of Ferndale.
